Dear Sir
My Son in Law D.r Manners of Philadelphia, is desirous of becoming a Surgeon either in the Navy or in the Army or of having the care of a military hospital. He graduated as a Physician about a twelve month ago, not merely in the usual way, but with much credit to himself, as I am given to understand, + he can procure ample testimonials of capability.
I do not know how to direct him in the proper method of application for this purpose : will you be so good as to put me in the way of addressing in common form
the proper department? I am Dear Sir Your friend and Humble Servant Thomas Cooper
His direction is Dr John Manners Walnut near 18th Street Philadelphia
